Whew, to think this day could not have come any faster. As promised our first episode on Giving is right at your doorstep!
Love, amor, amour, liebe, salang, Ài. Something we are not strangers to. The third on the list of Abraham Maslow's theory of needs right after the Psychological and Safety needs of an individual have been satisfied. This shows its importance as we humans are more skewed towards craving love.
When someone says, “I love you”, how does it make you feel? Do you feel this surge of adrenaline? Does it give you butterflies in your tummy, or does it warm your heart? Well, is the statement “I love you” really true?
I once heard a story about a flower. ‘A gardener liked a flower and promised never to cut it off. So, he continued to give it water and watched it grow daily, and the flower never wilted. As the gardener loved the flower, he continued to give the flower what it needed to flourish and live long.’
Love is not just an emotion or a feeling, love is a lifestyle, a source of power and strength, a pathway to happiness, a virtue and above all a gift. Love is backed by a force; Giving.
Giving is an act of love and service, a symbol and a reassurance of love. Is there something or someone you love so dearly that you can give anything for? Take a breather and think about it. How much of yourself are you willing to give to support something or someone you love?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting love.” John 3: 16. Isn’t the love of God so wonderful and divine? The extent to which he expresses his profound love, by giving to us is so mesmerizing, and that’s the ‘Cloud 9’ feeling I’m talking about.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5. You do realize the presence of two striking words here, “love” and “give”. God loves us and so he gives to us abundantly. And as children of God, we are expected to emulate him in our giving.
